Would team Canada really bring a 42-year-old Sidney Crosby to the 2030 Olympics? One talked about mock up thinks so.

After Sidney Crosby was robbed of the chance to battle at the 2026 Olympics for his third gold medal in men's hockey, many have assumed this was the last Olympic games for Crosby.
However, one popular protection for 2030 has gained some discussion, part of it being the inclusion of Crosby on Canada's roster.
A post on social media has what would be a 42-year-old Crosby on the Canada lineup. And as the comments show, there is much skepticism at that statement.
It could be because there's a four year wait where things could change, but Canada's 2030 Olympics roster may be one of it's most challenging to decide yet.

What is the argument for Sidney Crosby in the Team Canada lineup?

It's not entirely impossible to think just maybe Sidney Crosby could still play until 42, and be playing while still being an NHL caliber player. It is however, very difficult to be good at hockey at 42.
Since 2010, there have only been six players still active in the NHL at age 42. Jaromir Jagr, one of the six, played for the Czech Republic at the 2014 Olympics.
Canada is a different beast to make than the Czech's.
No NHLer has played as well as Crosby at his age, and he's showing little sign of slowing down. How much has he slowed down I n four years? Perhaps still enough to play.
Unlikely, however, is Crosby playing for Canada at the Olympics again. Given his age, it's doubtful he'd be selected. He could still suit up at the 2028 World Cup of Hockey, or at the World Championships, but 2026 was likely his last chance at Olympic gold.

Who else may be outside Team Canada? Who may enter in?

Sidney Crosby isn't the only player on the 2026 team who may have seen his last Olympics. Likely to age out by then are Mark Stone and Brad Marchand, as well as on defense Drew Doughty.
Tom Wilson, Bo Horvat, Devon Toews, and Colton Parayko could also have played their last games as all are in their 30's, while fellow 30+ Canadians Nathan MacKinnon, Sam Reinhart, Josh Morrissey, and Shea Theodore could still be contenders.
MacKinnon is highly likely to still be a top player by 2030, and Josh Morrissey may still be one of Canada's top defenders. They may be younger in 2030, and thanks to a talented youth crop on the way.
In 2030, Connor McDavid will still be able to lead at 32, while Macklin Celebrini has proven himself while surely going to gain maturity in the next four years.
Players who just missed out in 2026 such as Wyatt Johnston and Dylan Guenther could see themselves as 2030 locks, while Connor Bedard and Gavin McKenna could be the new 'young guns'.
Defensively, Canada has plenty of promising youth, starting with Matthew Schaefer. Zayne Parekh, Denton Mateychuk, Sam Dickinson, and Landon DuPont all have the potential to improve to Olympic worthy in the next four years.
Canada's goaltending will surely look different, with starter Jordan Binnington 36 in 2030.
Veterans such as Logan Thompson and MacKenzie Blackwood could be in line for the starting job, or for youngsters such as Sebastian Cossa and Josh Ravensbergen to reclaim goaltending supremacy for the Canadians.
Whether Sidney Crosby is miraculously a top NHLer in four years at the age of 42, Canada has the pieces to try for gold again in 2030, with or without Crosby.
