Earlier this afternoon, the Toronto Maple Leafs confirmed what every fan in Toronto had been hoping to see in the last few weeks: Ilya Samsonov has been place on waivers.
After a terrible first half of the season, Samsonov's luck ran out and Brad Treliving placed him on waivers, with a precise plan in place.
Tomorrow, if Samsonov clears waivers, he'll officially join the Marlies in the AHL.
According to Friedman, if Samsonov doesn't get claimed by another team, he won't play this week.
They intend to work outside the ice, to help him get better mentally before focusing on his goaltending issues.
"Assuming Ilya Samsonov clears tomorrow, the plan is for him to join the Marlies — but not play this week. They are going to work with him on and off the ice to get his confidence & game back."
Do you think Samsonov will play another game in the NHL this season?
