The Vancouver Canucks have officially traded defenceman Tyler Myers to the Dallas Stars after speculation he could be dealt as the team focuses on rebuilding and is something that could be the catalyst to kick off a wild trade deadline and help both teams achieve their respective goals.

Tyler Myers is on the move as the veteran defender was traded from the Canucks to the Dallas Stars in exchange for a 2027 second-round pick as well as a 2029 fourth-round pick.
Vancouver will also retain 50% of Myers' salary which means Dallas is only going to be paying $1.5-million for him this year and the next and for a team who needs as much money as they can to keep Jason Robertson, that's huge savings.
The first on the story was TSN's Darren Dreger, who mentioned early on Wednesday that pending a trade call; the deal to Dallas was basically set in stone:
Myers, 36 is one of several veterans who were expected to be on the move as Vancouver rebuilds, and waived his no-movement clause in order to make things happen.
He has eight points in 57 games this season (1 goal, 7 assists) with a minus-25 and 40 PIM with the Canucks.

Canucks add rebuilding assets as Dallas gets bigger on the backend

Fitting in nicely alongside Lian Bichel, and Alexander Petrovic, he brings yet another towering presence to the Stars blueline, and would help ease the pressure of their stars -- and has playoff experience too.
Myers sat vs. the Winnipeg Jets last Wednesday for trade related purposes according to Vancouver Canucks insider Rick Dhaliwal:
Vancouver also gets some much needed help for their rebuild and with it being more than a one-year fix, the addition of a second-rounder that can be used next year or perhaps as trade bait for something at the deadline -- it's really a win-win for them.
It's yet another move from Vancouver where they are dishing out players in the hopes of transforming their roster. Quinn Hughes, Kiefer Sherwood, and now Myers are out of town with the potential for others like Teddy Blueger and even Elias Pettersson to be dealt.
They now hold seven picks in 2026 and nine in 2027, so if GM Patrik Allvin was looking to rebuild his draft cupboard he did so handsomely and it sets him up nicely to figure out a future for the Canucks.
More details to come.
