A trade involving the New York Rangers captain Jacob Trouba possibly leaked online as the Detroit Red Wings are apparently making a big push to get him.

It looks like the New York Rangers have started to shop their captain Jacob Trouba to find a trade destination.

According to a report from the New York Post, the organization is hearing offers to offload Trouba's contract from the salary cap.

Following some tough playoffs where Trouba played despite injuries, the organization determined that they can use the money in a better way somewhere else.

"Indeed, a well-placed source has told The Post that #NYR GM Chris Drury is working on a deal to send the captain (Trouba) to #LGRW, a trade that the Michigan native would presumably accept after having played as a freshman for the Wolverines in 2012-13."

The Detroit Red Wings seem poised to be on the other end of that deal.

Trouba, a Michigan native, could accept being dealt to Detroit and bring his leadership to the Red Wings organization.

"Trouba to Detroit at 5.5m AAV. With 2.5m retained for 2 more years I wonder what the return will be. Is it a pure cap dump, or is there still value to the contract? #NYR "

If the Rangers retain part of his salary, the Red Wings could have to pay a hefty return for the defenseman.

While he struggled in the past year, getting into the next season fully healed should be enough for the veteran to get back to his usual level.

The Red Wings already have a few imposing players on their blue line, and Trouba's addition would make the team's defensive unit one of the scariest in the NHL.
