The 29-year-old will not fit in with the Sharks window to contend and likely wants to move on to a new situation.
With this in mind, the Toronto Maple Leafs could pull off a blockbuster and bring in a defenseman in the process. Sharks young defenseman Ty Emberson has played 9 NHL games this season. Emberson is a 23-year-old right-handed defenseman.
With where the Sharks are they likely want to get out of Hertl's contract. This could bring his price down despite his good play this season. If they can get another team to retain some salary along the way the Maple Leafs could give up a prospect and a couple of picks and fill two potential holes in the lineup.
