Matt Murray's Future With the Maple Leafs Is Officially Set

The Toronto Maple Leafs are going to be without the services of Matt Murray going forward after the veteran goalie signed with the Seattle Kraken on Tuesday.
Although the Leafs have been quiet so far on free agency, they've seen a slew of their former faces find new homes elsewhere, and the latest one might sting more than you'd think.
It was announced the Seattle Kraken had signed free agent goaltender Matt Murray to a one-year deal, ending his tenure in Toronto after a few seasons of giving them a very respectable backup.
It's an extremely cheap contract as well, only signing for $1-million for that one season, and Murray will help out when
Joey Daccord and Phillip Grubauer start to struggle.
Murray, 31, is a two-time Stanley Cup winner with the Penguins and has a career 147-87-24 record with a 2.80 GAA and a .910 SV%; he's spent time with Pittsburgh, Ottawa, and Toronto.
While he wasn't a mainstay for the Maple Leafs, and often spent time with the Marlies, Murray did provide the team a lot of solid goaltending in his minimal time with them.
In 28 games with the Leafs, he went 15-9-2 with a 3.05 GAA and .901 SV% while primarily as a third-stringer.
He gets to reunite with former Maple Leafs assistant coach Lane Lambert, who is now the head coach of the Kraken, and there's a good chance that he'll get more NHL action especially if they struggle between the pipes.
For now though, it looks like Murray gets to help the Kraken try and turn things around after a disappointing season in 2024-25, and there's always a benefit to adding a two-time Cup winner to your ranks, regardless of where you're sitting in the standings.
