In a sad bit of news in the hockey world, Sportsnet broadcaster John Garrett suddenly passed away, with fans and media mourning one of hockey's best.
Fans woke up on Tuesday morning and were unfortunately made aware of the news that Sportsnet hockey broadcaster John Garrett had suddenly passed away at the age of 74.

It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the sudden passing of John Garrett, a beloved colleague, friend, and one of the most familiar voices in hockey. 'Cheech' was a legend.
His warmth, humour and genuine love for the game endeared him to fans and colleagues alike...he will be remembered for not only his remarkable career but the kindness and joy he shared with everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
John will be missed immensely. Our deepest condolences are with his family and loved ones.

The network also posted a tribute video for Garrett on their social media as well:
Tributes poured out from all over social media, with fellow broadcasters, media, and fans all paying homage to Garrett:
Garrett started his career way back in 1986 with Hockey Night in Canada working with CBC before transitioning to Sportsnet later. He worked with Jim Hughson for a stint, and Maple Leafs fans will recognize his signature voice and look — which bore him the nickname Cheech.
He also was known for his humorous little side quests, such as when he and Hughson started singing during a very uneventful Canucks game:
Garrett spent six seasons as an NHL goalie, amassing a 68-91-37 record and spent time with the Hartford Whalers, Quebec Nordiques, and Vancouver Canucks before retiring.
It's certainly a massive loss for the hockey world and while there is no word on any public memorial or recognition; but no doubt Vancouver will find some way to honour him.
We here at HockeyPatrol would like to extend our condolences and prayers to the family, friends, and colleagues of John Garrett during this difficult time.
