This past week, it was announced that Jaromir Jagr would be retiring after his final season with the Kladno Knights, but he made it clear that he would still finish strong with the team in 2024/25.
In his first game of the season, Jagr tallied a nice assist to get the season rolling, and now he's netted his first goal, showing that even at 52, he's still got it.
It wasn't the flashiest goal in the world, but given all the miles under his belt on the ice, it's incredible that he can even still play at this level following an NHL career that lasted over 25 years. Following the goal, he now has two points in two games for the Knights, and while they're on pace to start the season 1-1, Jagr has them as must-see tv in the Czech Republic.
Over the course of his career, Jagr has played for 13 professional teams dating all the way back to 1988 and his beginnings with Kladno, in what will be one of the greatest careers we've ever seen. In that time, Jagr has tallied 953 goals (766 in the NHL) and an incredible 2,379 points (1,921 in the NHL). It's clear that he's headed for the Hall of Fame, and while he doesn't need to continue playing, Jagr has a pure love for hockey that few else do, and with him helping his Kladno Knights to the top division overseas, he is showing that he's still a fantastic player and a great owner for his club.
Once his career is done, it's unclear where Jagr will go, as he currently serves as the owner of the Knights, so it's possible he will continue to grow the game overseas, but given his wealth of knowledge and experience, it's safe to say that he could have any job he wants in the NHL.
For now however, fans should sit back and appreciate what they are seeing, as we are witnessing a player that has almost 2,000 NHL games under his belt, along with over 250 games outside of the league and more international games still get it done at age 52, and when it's all said and done, he will be remembered as one of the best to ever strap on a pair of skates.
