Connor McDavid Officially Extends With the Edmonton Oilers: NHL World Reacts

Connor McDavid is going to be sticking with the Edmonton Oilers according to NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman, with a contract expected to be signed later on Monday.
In a blockbuster bit of news coming out of the hockey world, it was announced that Edmonton Oilers superstar and 2026's biggest free agent Connor McDavid would be staying in town for the foreseeable future.
Elliotte Friedman Confirms the Massive McDavid Extension
The news was broken by NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman who mentioned that the extension is expected to come later on, but the framework is that McDavid is going to be staying with the team.
When pen is put to paper, it will end the saga of arguably the biggest story coming out of the offseason this past summer.
NHL Insider Chris Johnston revealed shortly after the announcement that the deal is a two-year pact, with the AAV being under $15-million per season.

Elliotte Friedman revealed the number for the contract was a staggering $12.5-million over the two years.
McDavid's future was speculated on heavily, and now with him in Edmonton, the focus will switch to other future free agents.
McDavid, 28, had 100 points in 67 games last season (26 goals, 74 assists) and made his second straight Cup Finals, losing to the Panthers yet again.

It also puts an end to the speculation (at least for now) that McDavid will head to his childhood team, the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Depending on the deal length and amount it could end up being a possibility, but for now; those immediate dreams are shattered.
