There is no denying that Fleury is a tremendous goaltender, but it is easy to understand why the Vegas Golden Knights may consider moving him given his age of 36 along with the fact they have another very capable goalie in Robin Lehner. One team that has been discussed is the Pittsburgh Penguins, however a new team has entered the conversation in the Chicago Blackhawks. Powers mentioned in a piece for The Athletic that a league source told him it could make sense given the fact they just moved out Duncan Keith and now have some extra cap room.
Fleury currently has one year remaining on a contract that carries a cap hit of $7 million. As mentioned, he was fantastic in the 2020-21 season compiling a 1.98 goals against average (GAA) along with a .928 save percentage (SV%) and a 26-10-0 record in 36 games played. If he were to be moved to the Blackhawks however, posting numbers similar to that may be difficult given how much weaker their overall roster is. Still, a move like this could help Chicago get back into the postseason after a rough 2020-21 campaign.
