Steven Stamkos pokes at Carey Price!
Former teammate at the 2014 Olympics, Steven Stamkos knows Montreal Canadiens goalie Carey Price well. Besides the fact that the two players won the gold medal together, the two have had the chance to face each other time and time again for more than a decade.
After a game 7 win, Stamkos launched a response that could have a devastating effect for the Tampa Bay Lightning.
In his remarks, he mentioned that the Russian Andrei Vasilevsky was the best goalie in the world, in front of Carey Price.
These words could come to haunt his team, since Carey Price has been at the top of his game since the start of the playoffs. Stat wise, the Habs are phenomenal to limit the scoring chances of scor in front of Price. We'll have to wait and see if the Habs will offer the same kind of performance against Toronto, Winnipeg and more recently, Vegas.
The Lightning's offensive punch is undeniable, but Carey Price isn't afraid of challenges. He was able to stop Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, William Nylander, Blake Wheeler, Kyle Connor, Nikolaj Ehlers, Max Pacioretty, Mark Stone, Jonathan Marchessault and Alex Tuch in the first three rounds. Against these elite players, he has maintained a save rate of 0.976 so far.
The opposing goaltenders maintained a regular season save rate of 0.856 against his players when they were shooting at the net. This means that Carey Price is currently monstrous against the best opposing elements. With a closed style of play in the defensive zone and a dedication from the wingers who are not afraid to dive in front of the shots from the defenders, the Habs tender could have success against Kucherov, Point and Stamkos.
