The Washington Capitals were defeated in a heartbreaking loss on Wednesday night. The Boston Bruins capitalized on a big mistake by Caps' goaltender Ilya Samsonov, with Craig Smith scoring the game winning goal in the second overtime period to give the Bruins a 2-1 series lead. Check it out:
Washington captain Alex Ovehckin, who was sitting on the bench at the time of the goal, was clearly not happy with how things went down. Ovechkin broke his stick over the boards and then proceeded to yell angrily at Samsonov in what was likely Russian, as both are from that country. This was Samsonov's first game of the playoffs despite being the Caps' starter. Samsonov was placed on COVID-19 protocol for the second time this season just before the playoffs began.
