As expected, the Toronto Maple Leafs didn't protect pending unrestricted free agent Nick Foligno from the Seattle Kraken Expansion Draft. The 33-year-old will hit the open market on July 28th, and he could be headed to the State of Hockey according to Andy Strickland of Bally Sports Midwest.
"Hearing there's a strong possibility Nick Foligno signs in Minnesota and joins his brother Marcus on a short-term deal," Strickland said in a tweet on Sunday.
The Buffalo, New York native spent the 2020-21 season with the Columbus Blue Jackets and Toronto Maple Leafs. He was traded to Toronto on April 11th in three-way deal that included the San Jose Sharks. Columbus ended up getting a 2021 first round pick for their captain.
In 49 regular season games this season, Foligno had 20 points (7 G, 13 A), 32 penalty minutes, and was a +2. In 4 playoff games for Toronto, he put up 1 point (1 A), and 5 penalty minutes.
