While the beloved goalie may be reluctant to trade his family before the trade deadline, the Chicago Blackhawks are in full rebuild mode, and this trade deadline may be Marc-Andre Fleury's last chance at a Stanley Cup. He's a nearing 40-year-old UFA who may only have one more Cup before retiring.
That's why The Athletic's Scott Powers wonders if Flower played his last game in Chicago on Tuesday.
«The outcome of his season will be known soon. The Blackhawks want to be sellers at the trade deadline because Fleury's season hasn't gone as planned. Fleury may also play a role. He is GM Kyle Davidson's most valuable trade asset and could kickstart his rebuilding plans. Davidson needs Fleury's consent to trade him, but if they do, Fleury's time with the Blackhawks is up.» S. Powers
The Blackhawks won't send him anywhere he doesn't want to go. A 10-team no-trade clause has Fleury leaning toward staying in Chicago, but as the Blackhawks' biggest trade chip, GM Kyle Davidson may beg him to leave. That's why Powers wonders if Flower played his last game in front of his Chicago fans.
«It's possible Fleury made his final United Center appearance before Blackhawks fans on Tuesday. The Blackhawks play Minnesota on Saturday and Winnipeg on Sunday. Fleury may start the first game or be dealt before Sunday's home game. Officially, Monday afternoon.»
