The Carolina Hurricanes have made a hostile offer to CH's Jesperi Kotkaniemi. A $6.1 million one-year contract.
The Habs will receive a first round pick and a third round pick if they do not match Carolina's hostile offer to KK.
Many analysts and supporters ask what the wisest decision is in this case and what the implications are for Marc Bergevin.
According to multiple sources, Jesperi Kotkaniemi's new contract discussions were not going well and the two parties were far apart.
It's true.
Kotkaniemi and Montreal were not close to signing, as Pierre LeBrun and Elliotte Friedman reported yesterday.
The Canadiens abused their power against him (given that KK was a restricted free agent). Friedman stated they were talking about a 2-year agreement worth $2.5 million per season, maybe less.
However, the Habs and Jesperi Kotkaniemi were not in accord, thus one party demanded more and the other wanted less. If they had agreed, the total price would have been close to $5 million for two seasons. 2/year
