As a parent, sending your child to a hockey camp, the last thing you expect is that they might not return home – a nightmare no parent should have to endure.

In September 2019, Ben Teague, a player on the Oakville Rangers of the Ontario Junior Hockey League, went to a pre-season camp and tragically never returned.

According to TSN's Rick Westhead, his parents, Greg and Susan, have filed a $1 million lawsuit against the Rangers and others.

Our @CTVW5 story on their search for answers about how their 17-year-old son Benjamin died at a team event in 2019".

The lawsuit cites negligence and wrongful death in relation to the 17-year-old player, who was admitted to the hospital after consuming alcohol. His parents received a phone call and rushed to his side.

It is our hope that Greg and Susan find the answers they seek and that those responsible face the consequences. This tragedy should not leave the family in the dark about the circumstances of their son's death.

This heartbreaking incident highlights the need for greater transparency and accountability in hockey culture. It is time to put an end to such tragedies and ensure that families never have to experience this kind of pain again.

The silence around hockey culture has gone on for way too long, it's time for things like this to stop.
