Toronto Maple Leafs' Auston Matthews will miss training due to wrist surgery. "Matthews experienced discomfort while increasing his on-ice training earlier this week," the team said. Surgical intervention was recommended by specialists and Maple Leafs medical staff. His recovery will take six weeks."

Matthews missed a few games in 2020-21 due to a wrist injury. A six-week absence means he'll miss the start of training camp and possibly the first pre-season game.

Matthews scored 41 goals in 52 games last season, earning him the league's Rocket Richard Trophy.
