Talks about Matt Murray's comeback in time for the first round are becoming increasingly rare, even if the Leafs haven't placed him on the IR.
However, the move Dubas made yesterday, sending Woll back to the Marlies, added fuel to the fire.
With Woll in the AHL, who could be the Leafs' tandem for the rest of the season?
There was a surprise today at the Leafs' practice ahead of tonight's game against the Montreal Canadiens.
First, let's clear something up. Samsonov should be in the net tonight against Montreal.
But two other goaltenders were on the ice with him this morning.
As reported by David Alter, Andrew D'Agostini and Brendan Bonello are the other two goalies in uniform.
D'Agostini isn't playing right now but has played for the Marlies from 2020 to 2022 before being sent down to the ECHL.
The other is York University goaltender Brendan Bonello. It's not the first time they've invited a university goalie to practice with them. Bonello also participated in the Marlies development day back in March 2022.
It would be surprising to see one of them serving as Samsonov's backup for tonight.
We should have more information soon from the organization, but if Murray isn't on the bench and Woll is in the AHL, either Bonello or D'Agostini may get a close-up view of tonight's game.
