A NHL referee had to be stretchered off the ice after a scary collision with Tampa Bay Lightning's Haydn Fleury.

The official Steve Kozari was involved in a massive collision and lost consciousness on the ice. Eventually, he had to be stretchered off the ice.

"Scary moment. NHL ref collided with one of the ⁦@TBLightning⁩ players. Ref is being taken off on a stretcher. 🙏🏻"

Before the referee left the ice, players from both teams went on the ice to salute him, highlighting the great respect between players and referees.

"Video of referee Steve Kozari grabbing linesman Kyle Flemington's hand while being stretchered off after an accidental, violent collision with Haydn Fleury. (Fleury went to the room.) Hope everyone will be okay."

The Penguins ended up winning 5-4 against the Lightning, in an action-packed afternoon-matchup between two great teams in the Eastern Conference.

The Pens had to win this game to keep on hold on to their playoff hopes, and that's what they did. Goalie Alex Nedeljkovic made some crucial saves at the end to keep his team in the game.

Crosby, Malkin, Letang and Karlsson combined for eight points, while the newcomer and former member of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Michael Bunting, scored three points.

More to come.
