During a recent matchup against the Toronto Maple Leafs a Columbus Blue Jackets forward suffered a potentially serious medical problem.
During a normal forecheck in the offensive zone Blue Jackets forward Sean Kuraly was involved in a collision. After being hit Kuraly immediately rushed off the ice holding his chest. Once he made it to the bench paramedics were alerted something was wrong and the game was stopped.
The teams would head to the locker room after such a scary incident. The game continued and no significant updates were given on Kuraly's health. That is until Kuraly was able to speak recently and give an update.
Sean Kuraly was able to speak with the media in Columbus on Friday. During his availability he said he told the medical staff something felt wrong as he held his chest.
"I think something is wrong."
He also says he was light headed and struggling to breathe due to this incident at the time.
After a full evaluation of his chest and vital organs Kuraly was diagnosed with a rib contusion. Kuraly says the immediate reaction was scary but serious issues were ruled out fairly quickly.
As of now, Kuraly remains day-to-day with the contusion but is back with the team. This situation thankfully was not serious but did show fantastic protocols in place to provide quick response times to potentially significant health scares.
