Leafs 1st Round Pick Responds To Hate Messages
The Toronto Maple Leafs' top pick has clapped back at the haters with savage remarks.
The Leafs Decision To Pick Cowan
During the 2023 draft, the Toronto Maple Leafs selected Easton Cowan 28th overall. Coming off of a 53-point year in the OHL which saw him score over a point-per-game in the playoffs, Cowan showed constant progression throughout the year.
Despite his strong year, he has projected to go somewhere in the mid-second round to the early third round so when the Leafs took him at the end of the first fans were shocked.
While there were other top talents available at 28, the Leafs felt like they needed to get their guy and selected him earlier than analysts would have projected.
Cowan Responds To The Hate
Since being a "reach", Cowan has received backlash for something out of his control. He recently responded to the hate.
"People want to call it a reach, they can call it a reach. It's their opinion and it is what it is. They don't think I'm that good, so be it. It's not my problem. I'm just going to focus on myself and try to stay positive. You're in those lights now, so people will hate on whatever you do in life. That's what it comes down to now, so I use it as fuel. I kind of laugh it off. I'm going to do what I love to do and that's compete, have fun and try to win." - Easton Cowan
Quite a mature response from the 18-year-old. He knows he was selected in the first round for a reason. If he can continue to develop, he could be the perfect complimentary winger for Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner.
