Yesterday, the Vancouver Canucks shocked the hockey world when they announced Dakota Joshua was diagnosed with cancer (albeit a positive update on the situation), and now, they've got some even more bad health related news.
According to a report, 31-year old veteran Tucker Poolman will miss the entire 2024/25 season after missing the entirety of the 2023/24 season, as he continues dealing with major concussion issues that have seen him miss plenty of time in recent seasons.
Despite being drafted back in 2013 by the Winnipeg Jets and making his NHL debut in 2017, Poolman has just played in 168 NHL games, with his stint in Vancouver, beginning in 2021 being a disaster from a health perspective.
Since signing a four-year contract in the summer of 2021, Tucker Poolman has played in just 43 games, missing the entirety of last season and playing in just three games the year before, with the concussions becoming a potentially career threatening issue.
At 31-years of age, the Iowa native has struggled to stay on the ice throughout his career, with a career high of 12 goals in his second season back in 2018 showing that when he is healthy, he can be a genuine difference maker.
With Joshua, Poolman, Brock Boeser and Thatcher Demko all reeling due to injury or health issues, the Canucks head into training camp with some major depth issues, but given the elite level talent they have at the top of the roster, the optimism is there that they can improve on an amazing 2023/24 season.
