William Nylander had a surprise announcement at the end of the season press conference, potentially continuing his season internationally.
Nylander would head over to play for his country who is hosting this year's World Championship and would join several other NHL players who were eliminated and joined their respective teams such as
Marc-Andre Fleury with Team Canada.
William Nylander Would Make Team Sweden Even More Elite
The Leafs forward had another solid season, tripling up on a 40-goal output yet again, and scoring a career high 45 goals.
A big part of Toronto's success in the regular season, he added 15 points in 13 games and was arguably the team's best playoff performer.
It would be a huge addition to the Swedish team,
who is already undefeated thus far as the host team, including shutouts against Latvia and Slovakia (twice) and are outscoring opponents 25-3.
It's unknown where Nylander would play but it's assumed he would take over part of the first line duties over
Isac Lundestrom.
Nylander could no doubt add to that scoring prowess, and the chance to play for his home country while also being able to enjoy his native land and maybe see some old friends and family is a positive end to a disappointing playoff loss.
Clearly the hockey itch isn't satiated yet from an earlier exit than hoped, and the fact that Nylander is so dedicated to not only his craft, but improving and trying to get as much game time as possible shows his passion for the team.
Even if the team is out, Nylander wants to get better, play more, and prepare even more for next season.
What more can you ask for?
