William Nylander apologized for his actions during the Toronto Maple Leafs' game vs. Colorado on Sunday as it may have given fans the wrong impression.

During Sunday's matinee game between Toronto and Colorado, the TV cameras picked up something quite interesting as it panned to William Nylander, who decided to flip the bird to the viewing audience as a joke.
However many didn't take too kindly to that, and it only added to the fans' frustrations with the team and it led to Nylander to apologize:
Only love for Leafs Nation. Sorry about my moment of frustration today! Didn't mean to upset anyone. Looking forward to being back on the ice and not in the stands [crying face emoji]. Love Willy.
Nylander also placed an emoji of two hands making a heart as a symbolic gesture of his love for the team, and that he knew he messed up.

Nylander's gesture unprofessional but not unwarranted

It's understandable as to why Nylander may be a little frustrated as not only is he sitting on the sidelines with a groin injury, but the team themselves is not exactly giving him a lot of hope when he comes back.
They are losers of four straight, and if it weren't for Nylander -- who still leads the team in points despite playing 14 less games than the second-highest producer in John Tavares.
While Nylander will most likely not face any additional discipline for his actions, it might give fans the wrong impression and feel like he doesn't treat things as serious as he should.
The best way to make up for it besides an apology is to come back on the ice and prove it means something to him.
