According to James Mirtle, Toronto Maple Leafs forward Nick Robertson's future with the team is still questionable even though it seems he may have found a spot.

Debate about who is going to start the season with the Toronto Maple Leafs is certainly heated. There are young players like Easton Cowan who are fighting to stake their claim as everyday players, meanwhile you have veterans like David Kampf and Calle Jarnkrok also vying for spots.
But the one who gets a lot of focus is Nick Robertson. The entire rollercoaster situation dating back to before last season has led to many wondering if he truly has a spot on the Maple Leafs.

What the Insider Said About Robertson's Timeline

Trade requests, arbitration threats, and a lack of consistent production has the rumors hot and heavy, and according to one well connected Maple Leafs insider; he might be on the outs.
According to James Mirtle of The Leaf Report, he spoke about Robertson's future with the team and felt confident in saying that he doesn't believe the forward is going to be on the team past the first month of the year:
I'd be really surprised if Nick Robertson's still on the team by November.

How the Bottom-Six Logjam Could Shape the Maple Leafs' Next Move

With guys like Cowan, Jacob Quillan, and even Jarnkrok and Kampf being able to usurp and take Robertson's spot, at least the team should entertain getting some assets for him; and potentially something bigger.
We know that Robertson is streaky but has a ton of potential. Why not ship him over to a team who could use a fresh young face for a rebuild and reunite him with Kyle Dubas?
Toronto could use him and some other intriguing young pieces like Dennis Hildeby, William Villeneuve or even a Henry Thrun to make a package for a player like Rickard Rakell or Bryan Rust.
You're swapping out potential and youth for a surefire bet, and while it's a bit frustrating to see Toronto trade away a person who could potentially torch them for years to come; we've already had a lot of Robertson exposure to no real success.
Sure he hit 15 goals last season as a career high, but managed a measly seven assists; compare that to last season where he was a much more balanced player with 27 points (14 goals, 13 assists).
It also seems like the fan reaction is less than stellar, and it seems the quicker there's a resolution the better:
Robertson did have a solid first preseason game with one goal, however we saw much of the same last season with him scoring five before the regular season then being incredibly inconsistent thereafter.
So keep an eye out fans: Nick Robertson might not be in blue and white too much longer. The only question is who does Toronto end up getting back?
