Toronto Maple Leafs rookie Gavin McKenna is in Vancouver to take on the Canucks, and he is already receiving taunts from the likes of Matthew Sekeres.

Gavin McKenna is in his first year in the NHL, and he is already receiving hate from the media. In fact, some of this hate is completely ridiculous and undeserved.

Case in point, Vancouver radio host, Matthew Sekeres of "Sekeres & Price," is currently going after McKenna and the Leafs organization for not letting the rookie speak to the media today.

Closest market to home for #1 overall. Trains here in offseason. Coming off a two-goal (three-point) game. Chance to promote a new NHL star. But too scared of the big, bad Vancouver media.

It is a bit of a low blow, and a ridiculous piece of criticism when you consider how the media probably wasn't going to ask him anything important, anyway.

The Maple Leafs play the Canucks on Saturday, and most of the questions would have been about McKenna not getting to play in the market closest to his home.

Ultimately, not every media availability is necessary, and McKenna was given an opportunity to enjoy the city and also worry about his game.

Gavin McKenna's stats this season

Through the first 15 games of his NHL career, Gavin McKenna has an impressive five goals and six assists for 11 points.

Coming in as the first overall pick, there were some pretty massive expectations placed upon the youngster, and so far, he is living up to them.

If he can get 60 points this season, that would be a massive success. Even 50 would be a solid showing from the rookie. So far, he is on pace to do just that.

Against the Canucks, McKenna will have an opportunity to stick it to the Vancouver media, and Sekeres, in particular.
