An update from NHL Insider David Pagnotta has named two Maple Leafs forwards as trade candidates who could help bring in a top-six piece to stabilize their lineup.

A major offseason question was whether the Maple Leafs would add another top-six forward after moving Mitch Marner.
The team has not chosen to bring anyone aboard yet, and are currently dealing with several injuries to key players including captain Auston Matthews, and the organization may have to weigh their timing carefully given their situation.

What the new report suggests about the Maple Leafs' trade approach

One insider reports however that if the team were still eager to pursue a top-six forward, there are two names he has heard as part of a potential package.
David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period appeared on the DFO Rundown and noted that with the Maple Leafs' search for a top-six forward, sources have told him that both Max Domi and Brandon Carlo have been discussed as trade candidates:
If they really up their efforts to try to bring in somebody that can stabilize that top-six, you're probably gonna hear names like Max Domi and Brandon Carlo; those are two names that have been floated out recently.

Domi, 30, hasn't produced at the level expected since signing a four-year, $15-million extension with the team last summer. With only 86 points in 171 games (20 goals, 66 assists) he hasn't even reached double-digit goals in a season since coming over to Toronto.
Carlo, 28, was acquired at the trade deadline last year for prospect Fraser Minten and a 2026 first round pick, though if Toronto lands in the Top 5 for the draft lottery, they will keep their selection.
But he has had below average defensive metrics, with this season presenting the worst numbers of his career so far. In addition to only five points in 37 games (0 goals, 5 assists) his xGF has dropped, and his xGA has increased.
With injuries continuing to pile up, the Maple Leafs also need to bear in mind that the longer they go without an improvement, the more difficult it will be to compete in the Atlantic Division.
So to avoid risking a less than favourable playoff spot, or even missing them altogether, Brad Treliving may need to deal his trusted veterans.
