Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving added more depth to his blue line today, signing free agent defenseman Dakota Mermis.
Mermis is a veteran defenseman that is 30 years old. He does not have a ton of NHL experience, but last season was by far his most significant of his career. He got into 47 games with the Wild, and while he averaged just over 14 minutes a night, he scored 3 goals and had 8 points.
It appears that 30-year-old free agent defenceman Dakota Mermis is joining the Leafs.
He's now listed on their active roster.
Mermis averaged 14 minutes in 47 games for the Wild last season.
The veteran blueliner will likely spend much, of not all, of next season with the Toronto Marlies. However, he showed this season that he can be a capable bottom pair defenseman if needed.
