Toronto Maple Leafs receive an answer on Connor Hellebuyck amid trade request

Connor Hellebuyck wants out of Winnipeg, and with numerous teams looking to make an offer, Canadian teams like the Maple Leafs have been given some important information.

There are numerous teams that are considered contenders for Winnipeg Jets netminder Connor Hellebuyck. Those teams include the Buffalo Sabres, the Carolina Hurricanes, and even the Utah Mammoth. However, according to Elliotte Friedman on "32 Thoughts," a Canadian team will not be in the mix.

Of course, this means the Toronto Maple Leafs have no chance to acquire Hellebuyck. Fans would have figured this unlikely, but stranger things have certainly happened.

Were the Maple Leafs ever in on Hellebuyck

There were no reports that the Leafs were ever even considering Hellebuyck. After all, the Maple Leafs have their two goaltenders. This includes Sergei Bobrovsky and Anthony Stolarz.

All things considered, this is an incredibly solid tandem. Stolarz is two years removed from the best season of his entire career, and there is still some upside there, especially as a backup.

Meanwhile, Bobrovsky has a three-year deal with a full no-trade clause. He also comes to the Leafs with two Stanley Cup championships. Valuable experience that this team has been desperately looking for for years.

Simply put, Hellebuyck just isn't necessary for this franchise.

Jets hit with reality check amid Hellebuyck trade negotiations

Unfortunately, for the Winnipeg Jets, Connor Hellebuyck is not eliciting good trade offers. According to Darren Dreger, the offers have actually been "terrible."

Hellebuyck has cast a wide net when it comes to teams that he is willing to be traded to. Unfortunately for him, those teams simply are not interested in paying a hefty premium.

The Jets have little negotiation power, as Hellebuyck is the one who wants out. This is bad news for the franchise, as the Olympic Gold Medalist is their franchise cornerstone.

This Hellebuyck situation is fascinating to watch, and we will be keeping tabs on it as the season begins on September 29.
