Toronto Maple Leafs Must Make Critical Decision With Top Prospect Fraser Minten

Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Fraser Minten has shown that with a season or two of work he can become a formidable NHL player and turn out to be a potential star.

This season he's been solid so far with 2 points in 3 games, and is coming up on a very important deadline.

If Minten plays more than 10 games with Toronto it will trigger a it will trigger a clause that essentially burns a year off of his contract if he returns to the AHL and gives Toronto one less season to work with him.

Toronto has a big decision to make, not only for their future but for the current state of their roster.

Fraser Minten was a callup for an injury and if he either plays fantastic or the injuries take longer, it makes Toronto's decision that much harder.

Of course Toronto would love to keep playing Minten but there's the extra bonus of being able to send him down to the AHL and not waste a year of his deal.

They can always send him down, cut their losses and focus hard on making sure Minten plays more next season but there's no guarantees on anything.

Toronto has benefitted well from Minten's presence in the lineup and was able to not only score his first goal, but also be a solid defensive presence and is starting to earn head coach Craig Berube's trust.

Fraser Minten is projected to be a huge part of the Maple Leafs future core which includes Easton Cowan, Ben Danford, and Artur Ahktyamov and if Toronto feels they can fast-track his development perhaps they won't mind burning the extra year if they feel he's ready.

In closing, Toronto needs to make a decision with Fraser Minten fast in order to maximize the amount of time they have to develop one of their top prospects or risk losing a full year of development.
