The Toronto Maple Leafs sent scouts to the Chicago Blackhawks and Los Angeles Kings game on Tuesday, and we have a sense of who they are scouting.

With the Toronto Maple Leafs looking to add a defenseman to their roster, general manager John Chayka sent scouts out to two games on Tuesday night.

One of those games was between the Chicago Blackhawks and the Los Angeles Kings. In the end, the Blackhawks won by a score of 2-1. However, reporters immediately noticed that their former seventh-overall pick, Kevin Korchinski, barely saw the ice.

This prompted some Leafs fans on Twitter to suggest that Chayka needs to save Korchinski from this unfavorable predicament immediately.

The 6-foot-3, 22-year-old defenseman was drafted seventh overall in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, but has only played 108 NHL games. Head coach Jeff Blashill has not been particularly favorable towards him it feels as though the Blackhawks could be ready to move on.

Meanwhile, the Leafs would love to get younger on defense, and Korchinski is the exact kind of defenseman this team needs.

Why isn't Korchinski excelling in Chicago?

Some Leafs fans may look at Korchinski and wonder whether or not he's worth it, considering the Blackhawks must not be playing him for a reason.

However, it should be noted that Korchinski's lack of ice time has to do with the Blackhawks' depth when it comes to left-handed defensemen. They have Alex Vlasic, Wyatt Kaiser, and Bowen Byram.

When you factor all of this in, it becomes quite clear why the Blackhawks aren't giving the defenseman some playing time right now.

Regardless, these are the right questions to be asking, and we're sure Maple Leafs scouts are weighing the pros and cons with Chayka right about now.

If the Leafs do look to make a trade for Korchinski, it might not cost them all that much, which is ultimately why it would, indeed, be a good idea.
