It looks like Brad Treliving is still looking to add another defenseman to his lineup.

While there are rumors about Erik Karlsson joining the Leafs, the opposite seems to be true for Brett Pesce, who apparently doesn't want to play in Toronto.

Pesce Doesn't Want to Play in Toronto

According to The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta, the Leafs are not included in Pesce's 15-team trade list, even though he would be a great fit for Toronto.
"Well, they [the Leafs] would like to. They'd like to add a responsible guy because they've added the offensive unit in Klingberg... I want to clear something up too because I've been seeing Pesce all over the place - Brett Pesce in Carolina would be a perfect fit in Toronto. He's exactly what they need... He has a 15-team trade list. Toronto is not on that list.

So, if you want Brett Pesce, I'm sure they can go to him and say - and this is another guy with one year - 'we'd like to sign you to an extension, would you come here? Let's hammer that out,' that might change things. But as of now, Toronto is not one of the teams on Brett Pesce's trade list."

Why Would Someone Refuse to Play in Toronto?

The Leafs represent one of the toughest markets in the NHL, if not the toughest. There is a lot of pressure on players to perform well and win.
It's not the right fit for everyone.
Even though Pesce plays in Carolina, another demanding market, he is not interested in playing in Toronto, and that is understandable.
