Hours before they took the ice against the Anaheim Ducks, the Toronto Maple Leafs have let General Manager Brad Treliving go after a disappointing tenure and now the real hunt begins.
Monday came with a stunning bit of news that no one really expected to happen at least not yet. The Maple Leafs decided to part ways with Brad Treliving and fired him late in the evening.
Toronto is making a change at the GM position. Let go of Brad Treliving tonight.
The news was reported by Elliotte Friedman and backed up with a statement posted minutes later from the team.
A statement from MLSE CEO Keith Pelley announced the decision to let go of Treliving, a little over an hour before the Leafs game against the Anaheim Ducks.
The Maple Leafs statement on the matter is as follows:
Throughout the course of this season, there has been deep analysis into both the current state of the Maple Leafs organization, and the direction needed to achieve the ultimate goal of delivering a Stanley Cup championship to the city.
Brad Treliving is a man that we all have deep respect and appreciation for, both as a hockey executive and as a person, but it was determined that the club must chart a new course under different leadership.
The organization is grateful for all that Brad has contributed in his nearly three
years with the Maple Leafs and we wish him and his family the very best. - Keith Pelley

Hired in 2023 by the Toronto Maple Leafs, Treliving had a 139-92-27 record in charge of the Leafs. A direct replacement was not named.
Treliving was let go with one more season remaining on his contract as the Leafs general manager. Keith Pelley will address the media tomorrow at 2p.m.
Treliving faced increased criticism over his recent moves while in charge of the Leafs, having been chastised recently over his trade deadline moves that saw Bobby McMann move for second and fourth round picks.
The move was criticized further after McMann scored seven goals in his first eight games as a member of the Seattle Kraken.
According to TSN insider Pierre LeBrun, Toronto is undergoing a 'formal GM search', one that will take them to deciding their next general manager in the offseason.
It's not clear if a GM replacement will come before the NHL Draft and the beginning of free agency, a decision left to be decided upon later.
