Toronto's front office changes are in full force as they have made several cuts to the management team including Assistant GM Darryl Metcalf.
John Chayka made sweeping changes to the Maple Leafs lineup so far this offseason but his adjustments haven't been solely on-ice, as he brought in an entirely new coaching staff headed by Jim Hiller, let Brandon Pridham and Shane Doan go, and it looks like the team is set to make even more in the coming weeks.
Toronto let several office staff, scouts, and analytics gurus walk out the door
Well, Thursday ended up being the first day in potentially several that the Maple Leafs make changes and it involved a majority of the front office according to sources.

David Pagnotta confirmed a report from Daily Faceoff producer Vick Polatian on Thursday morning that the Maple Leafs had fired people from their front office, analytics, and scouting staff with the biggest casualty being Assistant GM Darryl Metcalf:
Our boy Vick heard correctly. The Maple Leafs made several more front office, analytics and scouting staff changes yesterday. Among them relieved of their duties is AGM Darryl Metcalf.

According to Steve Simmons, some of the other firings include Director of Amateur Scouting Mark Leach, longtime scout Dave Morrison, and the aforementioned Metcalf:

While the Maple Leafs have yet to confirm the departures, it would not be too shocking to see this overhaul of staff given that John Chayka and company are truly trying to give the team a fresh look and an even fresher start.
Metcalf headlines Maple Leafs firings as team loses their analytics guru
Metcalf was responsible for hockey research and development and had a heavy dosage of analytics thrown in there, which you'd think would play right into John Chayka's game plan but it feels like more about the change of scenery more than anything.
The Queens University grad started with the team as an analyst in 2014-15, working his way up to Director of Hockey Research and Development, before settling into an Assistant GM role with the same responsibility, and given he's status as a member of the front office for over a decade, Chayka felt change was necessary.
There's no word yet on who the Maple Leafs are going to hire in his position nor has the team officially announced the departure. Things can always change of course, but with how much overhaul there's been this year, this smoke seems to have some fire to it.
We will keep you posted and updated on the official release from the Maple Leafs regarding their front office overhaul.
Was firing Darryl Metcalf a bad idea?
