Several Leafs veterans identified as those in danger of losing their roster spot

Over the last few years, the Maple Leafs have taken plenty of criticism for the lack of elite level talent coming through the organization, but with training camp ahead of the 2024/25 campaign on the horizon, that may not be the case anymore.

With a deep roster, the potential emergence of names like Pontus Holmberg, Fraser Minten and Easton Cowan are all ready to push out their veteran counterparts, with the team at Editor in Leaf identifying two players in particular that are in danger of losing their spot.

According to their latest piece, it's Ryan Reaves and David Kampf who are most in danger of being pushed out, and after up-and-down performances a year ago, this makes plenty of sense, even if he is a great presence in Toronto's locker room.

Last season, Reaves had a dreadful campaign, with his performances being inconsistent at best as he managed to contribute just four goals and six points in the 49 games he played. While he showed off his physical side, the veteran forward wasn't the presence that he once was, coming under major scrutiny throughout the year for not protecting his team, the only role that he was hired to play.

As for Kampf, he plays a solid role on the fourth line, tallying 8 goals and 19 points in a solid 79 games a season ago, but with the loaded top-six being relied on a little too heavily for offense, if the team believe Cowan or Minten are ready to take the next step to the NHL, he may be the first to lose his roster spot.

No matter who is currently in or out of the Maple Leafs lineup, this competition will be a positive factor heading into training camp, and while the veterans likely have their hand on their spot in the lineup currently, if Cowan and Minten turn up to camp and show out, new Head Coach Craig Berube has some tough choices to make.
