Reporter reveals why Samsonov is the starter for game 2 vs the Bruins
A reporter revealed why Ilya Samsonov will be the Toronto Maple Leafs' starting goaltender for game two against the Boston Bruins.
After an underwhelming performance in the first game, it looks like Ilya Samsonov will get the chance to redeem himself, according to The Athletic's Joshua Kloke.
With Joseph Woll is available and Samsonov's bad start on Saturday, many fans believe it's time to try something else between the pipes.
However, Kloke believes that Sheldon Keefe won't make a change in starting goalie just yet.
"Does that mean Keefe will quickly pull an about-face and turn away from Samsonov, who he boasted earlier this month as the 'goalie of record to help us win the first playoff series in a really long time here in this city'?
That feels unlikely, given Keefe and the coaching staff appeared focused on getting Samsonov enough rest leading into the postseason in anticipation of plenty of starts. Samsonov is still the undisputed starting goalie, for now."
Samsonov has more experience, and despite major struggles this season, bounced back. However, if he repeats these bad outings, don't be surprised if we see Woll getting the nod in game three or four.
Do you think Samsonov will bouce back from the 5-1 loss against the Boston Bruins in game one?
