Mitch Marner's days in Toronto are numbered according to Steve Simmons, as the Toronto Sun reporter believes the star forward is tired of being the whipping boy.

The contract talks surrounding Mitch Marner have run rampant since the beginning of the season. Expected to make bank come free agency wherever he ends up, whether it's Toronto or otherwise.
He's made it known numerous times that he wants to stick with the Maple Leafs but there's still questions regarding his potential true intentions.
If he wanted to stick around though, it would be a true test of character for the superstar forward because according to a new report; he's not happy with how he's been treated.
Per Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun, Marner is sick and tired of being the team's whipping boy and a 'pinata' for criticism.

It's understandable that Marner would feel a bit of resentment for his treatment, as he's no doubt been one of the best Maple Leafs players of the modern generation, but he won't be praised if he continues to play the victim.
Yes, his regular season accolades are fantastic, but with one playoff series win to his name, it's understandable by fans would be so critical.
He wants to be the highest paid Maple Leaf, he wants to earn a massive deal; but if he had shown a bit more success when it mattered, maybe fans would lay off on him.
It isn't just the lack of production when it matters, but it's the nonchalant attitude he seems to take when confronted with questions. Even this summer he was the subject of criticism for his lack of season preparation, but his numbers would say otherwise.
This season, Marner has 80 points in 65 games and was on pace for a career high, but he has slowed down over recent games and needs to pick it up offensively if he wants to eclipse the 100-point mark for the first time in his career.
If Marner and the Maple Leafs falter again in the playoffs, don't look for the fans to give any sympathy to Marner after a decade of disappointment.
He may be tired of being the whipping boy, but hasn't given fans much alternative when it comes down to it. Produce more in the playoffs Mitch, then you'll get the admiration you deserve.
