Recently Signed Leafs Forward Expected to Join Organization After Playoff Elimination
Borya Valis recently signed with the Maple Leafs after a standout season, but after being eliminated in the playoffs; he could be headed quickly to the Marlies.
When the Maple Leafs signed Borya Valis last month, the ended up signing one of the better free agents on the market, and could add some serious firepower to their future team with the likes of
Easton Cowan,
Luke Haymes and Jacob Quillan.
He recently was highlighted in the playoffs as one of the prospects to watch for the club, but his postseason didn't end up going the way he had hoped. His Prince George Courgars ended up bowing out in seven games to the Portland Winterhawks, ending his season in the OHL.
He is expected to join the Toronto Marlies for their last slate of games, and might find himself being shown quite a big look alongside Quillan as well as newcomers Haymes and Ryan Kirwan.
Borya Valis Offers Hope For Future Of Maple Leafs
Valis, only 20 years old, had 73 points in 57 games for the Cougars (29G, 44A) and will be another big-bodied scorer for the Maple Leafs to utilize going forward.
At 6'2, 200 pounds, he still has time to add some muscle to his frame and there could be a distinct possibility that he makes a serious fight for the fourth line, especially if Toronto doesn't end up keeping
Steven Lorentz,
Ryan Reaves, or
Pontus Holmberg.
He has 216 points in 236 career games with both the Regina Pats and the Prince George Cougars.
If Valis can get some chemistry this season with his fellow Marlies teammates, it could spell good news for not only him but for his teammates also fighting for a spot.
The new wave of Maple Leafs players is slowly coming together, and there's no doubt Valis is going to be impactful for years to come.
But for now, the rookie will ply his trade in the AHL, and coming off a very good season and motivated to play in the NHL; there's no telling how good Valis will be, or exactly what type of star Toronto has on their hands.
