PK Subban has never been afraid to speak his mind. Today he did just that when discussing the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Subban Calls Out Maple Leafs With Shocking Criticism

The former NHL defenseman turned analyst brought up the Leafs during ESPN's postgame coverage of the Red Wings and Blues game today. He called out the Leafs for their lack of depth, making one bold claim about the fate of the team, should Auston Matthews leave.

«They better hope that guy scores 100 goals You take that guy off that team, I don't think they even make the playoffs«

Of course, the same could be said about a lot of teams. Imagine the Edmonton Oilers without Connor McDavid or the Colorado Avalanche without Nathan Mackinnon. Players of that level simply elevate the entire team around them. The same could be said for Auston Matthews.

Matthews Continues Torrential Goal-Scoring Pace, On Track For New Record

As Subban eluded to, Matthews has been scoring left, right, and center this year. After the team's last game against the Arizona Coyotes, the Leafs superstar is up to 52 goals in 55 games, a pace not seen since the 80s.

The goal-scoring winger is up to six hat tricks on the season, including two separate instances of recording hatties in back-to-back games. This is the kind of thing you see in video games, not the real life NHL.

This is getting ridiculous. 😱

That's the second time Auston Matthews (@AM34) has scored back-to-back hat tricks this season. It's also his SIXTH hatty of the year!

So would the Leafs suddenly fall off without Auston Matthews? Probably, he is one of the best players in the world after all. That does not necessarily mean it is fair to criticize the team for relying on him though. After all, all teams rely on their star players to produce.
