Last night the Ottawa Senators defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs and following their victory, they decided to rub salt in the Leafs' wounds.

Senators Take To Social Media To Mock The Maple Leafs

At the end of last night's game versus the Ottawa Senators, things got a bit chippy in the nation's capital. With about five seconds left in the game, Senators rookie Ridly Greig decided it was a good idea to take a slapshot into the Leafs' empty net from a few feet out.

Ridly Greig buries the empty-netter with a slapshot and Morgan Rielly takes exception

Morgan Rielly took exception to the gesture and will likely be suspended as a result of his actions.

This morning, the Senators decided to rub their victory in with this post.

Ridly Greig took a slap shot into an empty net to secure the victory and with it earned the Performer of The Game honours!

The Senators made it a point to use the picture of Greig scoring on the empty net and called his goal a "slap-away goal".

The Leafs faithful were quick to fire back at the Senators flooding their replies expressing their concerns.

Embarrassing to be promoting that. Setting aside Reily's reaction, every kid since u12 knows that was totally unsportsmanlike by Greig

I think it really is the turning point of the season, can't see why the Sens can't finish in 14th in the East now

Can't really fault Greig, he sealed the game in the biggest win of his NHL career, for much of the team a regular season win over Toronto is their Stanley cup, let him enjoy it.

With that win last night the Senators moved to 21-25-2 which is good for last in the Atlantic while the Leafs fell to 26-16-8 and were passed by the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Leafs currently sit at 4th in the Atlantic and have the first wild card slot.
