New Report Urges Brad Treliving to Go All-In on Three-Time Stanley Cup Champ Jonathan Toews
With the Toronto Maple Leafs gearing up for an offseason full of question marks, they could do themselves a favor by signing one of the best players of all time.
Those and several other questions surround the team, though if they want to add some serious veteran firepower, they should keep an eye on a new report and look to sign former Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews, who is working hard to make a comeback and is expected to skate next season.
According to Ray Whitney of the Spittin' Chiclets podcast, the former NHLer revealed that Toews; who has been out for the last two seasons with an autoimmune disorder and long-COVID symptoms is working toward a return next year:
He's playing next year budHe's playing. He's skating everyday in Arizona, He's playing.
Jonathan Toews' Comeback Could Bring Huge Boost To Maple Leafs
While it's not set in stone, it does echo the
previous reports that Toews was looking to make an NHL return.
After travelling overseas to India in order to undergo a personal health sabbatical, it's clear the procedures and tactics that Toews underwent were not only successful but also gave him the ability to work toward a comeback.
Adding Toews would not only add a locker room leader, but a three-time Stanley Cup winner with a proven track record of leading a team not only during the season, but all the way to the promised land.
Since being drafted third overall by Chicago in 2006,
Toews amassed 883 points in 1067 games (372G, 511A) while winning the aforementioned three Cups, a Conn Smythe, a Selke, an Art Ross, and was selected as a member of the NHL's 100th Anniversary team.
Plus, if Toronto needs help with any playoff production, he's got them covered with 119 points in 137 games including two separate 20-plus point outings in the postseason.
It won't be a necessarily expensive contract, and while Toews was certainly making a pretty penny back in the day, it's hard to imagine him signing for the same amount, especially being out for two years.
But Toronto will have some cap room come summer, and if they were looking to make a splash without spending all of that space, they should field an offer to one of the best players of the late-2000's to mid-2010's.
