The Toronto Maple Leafs are expected to make a splash this summer, but nothing has come as of yet, with a new report showing they might just not be able to according to Greg Wyshynski.

Although the Toronto Maple Leafs are still expecting to make some type of move this summer, nothing bit has come as of yet besides the Mitch Marner deal; more so a formality and inevitable than anything.
They have been linked to several big name trade targets over the past several weeks, and while all of them would make an impact, the issue seems to be their lack of assets in order to get a deal done.

Toronto might be unable to make a deal even if they wanted to

Toronto has the cap room, with more moves to be made to open up even more such as trades involving David Kampf and Calle Jarnkrok however, there's difficulties finding buyers there as well.
Which is why according to ESPN Insider Greg Wyshynski, Toronto might not end up doing anything, regardless of the amount of space and could be anticipating a move later on:
I ultimately don't know how philosophically how 'all in' [the Leafs] are gonna be this summer even with the cap space they have; they aren't gonna just spend to spend, at least I don't think that's kinda where Treliving's head is at.

While it's true that Treliving and the Maple Leafs wouldn't want to add just for the sake of being able to say they made a move, there are still some free agents they can add who can be impactful, without breaking the bank or giving up too many assets (the minimal ones they have).
They are still linked heavily to Jack Roslovic, and may already have a deal in place with him or potentially Luke Kunin, and we're just waiting for the pen to be put to paper.
They could also go the same route they did with Michael Pezzetta and sign a tough, scrappy forward like Nathan Bastian, who seems more and more like a Craig Berube fit as each day passes.
A lot of the moves that Trelivving will or won't make hinges on whether or not he believes he can find a suitable buyer, and get enough of a return to warrant a deal, and while we're only two weeks into July, the preseason is going to creep up faster than we think.
If Toronto doesn't have a game plan or some type of move made by then, it's going to look like a dismal offseason that went from hoping to sign names like Brad Marchand to stitching together a roster from spare parts.
It might be a bit of a rougher year fans, but maybe Summer 2026 will bring that big splash fans are waiting for.
