Former Maple Leafs star Nazem Kadri ended up taking a slight jab at his old team while also throwing shade at his other former club, Colorado.
Although
the Maple Leafs are far and away the team they were when Nazem Kadri was a part of it, he's still an integral part of their history. One of the bright spots in some rough seasons, Kadri unfortunately left on unscrupulous terms.
Making his way through Colorado, and winning a Stanley Cup on the way, Kadri has generated quite the career for himself and is a staunch veteran who can be depended on for points, defense, and grit.
Now a mainstay with the Calgary Flames, the forward isn't currently in the playoffs, as much as he wishes he was. It hasn't stopped him however, from making some waves on social media.
While undoubtedly a shot at former club Colorado for
their brazen trade of
Mikko Rantanen (then subsequently being eliminated by him), the social media post could also be a pot shot towards Toronto for dumping him.
Nazem Kadri's Rollercoaster Career
It soured his relationship with the team, and given that it was Kyle Dubas' second season with the team, he decided that Kadri's locker room issues and on-ice antics were too much to handle.
Shipping him off to Colorado for a deal involving
Tyson Barrie and Alex Kerfoot, Kadri transformed himself into a two-way monster and ended up winning a Cup with the Avalanche in 2021-22.
With the Maple Leafs firmly in a tough series against the Florida Panthers, it's curious to think how Kadri would fare with this current iteration of the lineup.
While he might not be the first or second line center, him on a line with
Bobby McMann and
Max Domi or Nick Robertson could lead some to think there'd be some magic that could happen.
Kadri is coming off another solid season with the Flames. Scoring a career high 35 goals, the former 7th overall pick has become a fixture for the team; owing that to current Leafs GM Brad Treliving signing him to a mega deal.
They had a chance to reunite this season however a trade never materialized and it's hard to imagine the cost both financially and player-wise.
Kadri, for now, is going to be taking in the summer and getting himself prepared for next season.
It seems though that he might have a bit too much free time on his hands right now.
