According to Elite Prospects' Cam Robinson, forward Nicholas Robertson is being scouted by several Western Conference teams including one very familiar partner.

Although talks had seemed to cool off in the past few months, Nicholas Robertson is getting a lot of attention now that the regular season is inching closer and he still hasn't solidified his spot on the roster.
There's a chance the team could waive him, or they might be able to find a trade partner though with his inconsistencies it might be a little difficult, though there's no doubting his potential.

San Jose Among Teams Reportedly Interested in Robertson

Which is why Cam Robinson of Elite Prospects had some very good news regarding a potential trade regarding Robertson, and mentioned that one familiar team is kicking the tires on the young forward: San Jose.
Nick Robertson remains a name to watch on the trade front.

Hearing multiple Western Conference teams have shown interest in the Leafs winger, including San Jose
Toronto and San Jose are not strangers whatsoever when it comes to making a deal, as they exchanged Timothy Liljegren and Matt Benning in early-November last year, then were able to dump off Ryan Reaves for Henry Thrun.
I guess three's company when it comes to being trade partners, and with San Jose primed to be in a rebuild and able to present Robertson premium minutes; it could benefit both teams.

What a Potential Robertson Trade Could Mean for Toronto's Roster

Well first and foremost it would certainly help their current forward logjam that's for sure. With the new faces in town and other players like Easton Cowan outpacing him; it's hard to find a spot for him.
Plus he's making $1.825-million and to pay him and David Kampf to sit out is an egregious waste of money and if they can get some decent assets back they should jump on the opportunity.
It would also send a message to the rest of the roster that if you don't compete hard and bring it every night, regardless of your potential you could be next on the chopping block.
Robertson, 24, had 22 points in 59 games last season (15 goals, 7 assists) and while he had glimpses of brilliance at times, often fell short of expectations and was scratched frequently.
So while there's nothing to say that a Robertson trade is incoming, his lack of solid spot in the lineup and myriad of teams looking to add a potential top-six winger make it seem pretty clear one could be a benefit to both Toronto and whoever picks him up.
