This morning a new report is confirming that a former goalie prospect for the Toronto Maple Leafs has made the jump to their rival the Montreal Canadiens.
A new post on X by the Laval Rocket the AHL affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens has confirmed that goaltender Luke Cavallin will be signing a two-way AHL deal with the Rocket.
Luke Cavallin will come to the Laval Rocket after spending the 2023-24 season with the Toronto Maple Leafs organization.
Luke Cavallin made 9 appearances with the Toronto Marlies and another 24 in the ECHL with the Newfoundland Growlers. In his 9 AHL appearances, Luke Cavallin posted a 3.01 goals against average while in the ECHL he had a 2.95 goals against average and a 0.915 save percentage.
With the Toronto Maple Leafs having a stacked goaltending prospect pool including Dennis Hildeby, Artur Akhtyamov, and Vyacheslav Peska there likely was no room for Luke Cavallin to progress. Now with the Canadiens and Rocket, he has a chance to earn potential playing time in the AHL. At just 23 years old Luke Cavallin has plenty of time to develop into a consistent professional goaltender in a new home.
As the AHL season begins it will be fun to see if Luke Cavallin gets an opportunity to play in a game against his former team the Toronto Marlies and get revenge on the organization.
