The Toronto Maple Leafs have tried their hardest to put together a top team around the 'core four' in recent years, and perhaps the best signing they made this off-season was veteran forward Max Domi.
Domi's childhood team
This signing was a reunion for several reasons, as Domi grew up around the Maple Leafs when his father Tie Domi played for the team throughout the late 90's and early 2000's.
After an eight year career that's seen him tally 370 points over 581 games with Arizona, Montreal, Columbus, Carolina, Chicago and Dallas, Domi now gets to don the Maple Leaf for the first time, and it's safe to say he's not the only one excited about it.
A reunion with a star teammate
Not only that, but it will see him reunite with Mitch Marner for the first time since the two played together with the London Knights in 2014-15 when Marner had 124 points to Domi's 102 in a dominant season.
Now, Marner has opened up about the reunion, having this to say about teaming up with the former London Knight again almost 10-years later;
It's great! Max is a great player. But, just as important, he's a heck of a human being off the ice as well. I saw it firsthand in junior in both those cases. And it's going to be great for our team to have someone like that on it. Max's playing abilities should match our system very well given how he plays the game, so we're pumped about it. We're excited to see how it works out with our team. It should be a lot of fun.
Whether or not they can recreate that junior success on the ice at the NHL level is yet to be seen, but with this chemistry alongside the Leafs top stars, this could finally be the year that they take the next big step in the playoffs.
