Captain Auston Matthews and forward Mitch Marner both commented on their team's emotions after dropping two straight games after winning the first three.

It certainly was not the game the Maple Leafs wanted on Tuesday night. Getting shutout 4-0 by the Senators at home, the team is seeing their 3-0 lead slip away slowly, and with only two games left to get things done, time is running out for the team.
Their stars didn't show up, the team looked lost at times, and it was a really difficult watch as a fan, especially given how good the defense and everyone has been this season. It isn't time to panic yet, but things are not looking good at first glance.
Fans are upset, and the only thing that is going to make things right is a series win, and if the team can't lock it down yet again; it's the most miserable failure of the Auston Matthews era.

Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner Try To Quell Concerns

Speaking of which, the captain gave his thoughts post-game and tried to quell any fan concerns, and relaying that it isn't right to sound the alarm just yet, and the team believes they can pull through in the end:
We're a confident group in here. We're in a good spot here.
Granted, while they are in a good spot, they were in a much better one two games ago and have watched a dominant series start slowly wilt into more of the same from previous seasons.
It wasn't just Matthews though who tried to smooth things over, as Mitch Marner spoke up as well about the situation:
[It's] fine. It's not supposed to be easy. This was never supposed to be easy. We knew it was going to be a challenge. They pushed back the last two games. We have to go into a building and play our best game. We've been a great road team all year.
While it's understandable to expect the Senators to put up some kind of fight, they really didn't do too much of note during the first three games, and Toronto is heading back to a building where they are public enemy number one; they needed the win here to avoid another heated game in Ottawa.
But it's Matthews and Marner who really need to get it going. Sure, they have a combined 13 points but only two goals; they need to be better and need to start producing when it matters. This is the team's best chance to do anything in the postseason, and they are squandering it as each game passes.
Craig Berube may need to make some changes in his lineup, and perhaps we see names like David Kampf or Nicholas Robertson inserted in, or maybe Joseph Woll gets the start in Game 6.
Whatever it is, something needs to change because if it doesn't?
It's going to be just more of the same ol' nonsense as every year.
