Max Domi finally returning to the Toronto Maple Leafs lineup tonight he spoke to the media today and addressed his slow start to the NHL season.
After being out since November 16th due to injury Domi is finally returning to the Toronto Maple Leafs lineup against the New Jersey Devils.
This season has been one of incredible hardship for Domi even before going out with the injury he has been dealing with for almost a month now.
In 19 games so far this season Domi has just 6 points and no goals to his name to begin his tenure under new head coach Craig Berube.
His struggles have been a major reason why there are so many rumors surrounding the Maple Leafs trading for a second-line center a role that was supposed to potentially go to Domi this season.
Today ahead of his return to the lineup Domi spoke to the media and addressed his scoring slumps so far this season and how he feels he has played despite the lack of goals.
While Domi is still happy with the way he has played and feels he is contributing to winning hockey the reaction to his comments this afternoon has sparked some frustration from the media.
In a new segment on Sportsnet during the Kyper & Bourne show Nick Kypreos, Justin Bourne, and Sam McKee spoke about Domi's comments regarding him being okay with not scoring.
Kypreos didn't seem to mind Domi's comments while Bourne was frustrated that a player who was paid and expected to provide offense is trying to avoid that responsibility.
Bourne continued and gave a response he would've preferred to hear from Domi about his struggles and the energy and solutions he was bringing to fix the problem going forward.
With that said Domi clearly feels he is doing enough to contribute to the Maple Leafs' success so far and the results seem to indicate that is true.
The Maple Leafs currently sit second in the Atlantic Division and look like one of the best teams in hockey.
However, if history has taught us anything it is that the Maple Leafs will need to rely on their secondary scoring in the Stanley Cup Playoffs and that will mean Domi will need to step his game up.
