Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe revealed today that center Max Domi is out with a minor injury day-to-day. With just a couple of games left on the regular season, the next time we could see Max Domi might be game one of the playoffs.
When he asked head coach Sheldon Keefe about this, he revealed that the center was dealing with a minor injury and thus was given the practice off. However he did note that he is still an option to play tomorrow when the Leafs take on the Detroit Red Wings.
Domi is one of just a couple Leafs that hasn't missed a game this season. For one reason or another, almost everyone in the lineup has missed at least one game. The only players that remain are Domi and William Nylander. As such, the team could potentially go the season without a single player hitting 82 games played should Domi miss tomorrow's contest. Keefe will likely be looking to give Nylander a game of rest at some point before the playoffs begin.
The Leafs' place in the playoffs is more or less confirmed at this point. They are unlikely to move up or down in the standings, holding onto the 3rd spot in the Atlantic division. As a result, many players could be getting rest in the final games of the season. Ultimately, that may be part of the equation for Domi as well, considering his injury status. Sheldon Keefe may very well come to the conclusion that resting up for the playoffs is the best idea. We will just have to wait and see how he creates his lineups in the final three games of the season.
