Toronto Maple Leafs forward Max Domi speaks out after he dropped the gloves against Panthers defenseman Nate Schmidt in what was a great game for him.

While the Toronto Maple Leafs may have come up short in last night's game against the divisional foe Florida Panthers, one player's performance who stood out for Toronto was Max Domi.
Arguably the best game that he's played since putting on a Leafs sweater before last year, Domi dropped the mitts against Panthers defenseman Nate Schmidt after he took exception to a hit leveled on Carter Verhaege.

Max Domi's Momentous Game Arguably Best Of Season

As Domi explained, it wasn't his intention to catch Verhaege on a lower angle but that he figured he'd have to answer the bell:
Nothing was really said, but I kind of figured it's a big hit on one of their big players. I wasn't sure it was going to come up, but just kind of reacted. That's part of the game.

I think I might have caught him a little bit on the way down, and obviously I don't like doing that, but it definitely wasn't my intention.  I've got a lot of respect for him. Schmidty hung in there.

Domi's teammate Willam Nylander appreciated the effort that he put in, saying that his fight and goal during the contest had a far-reaching effect on the team:
He came out hot.  A big hit, nice fight, huge goal. He had a great game.  It fires everybody up. I think everybody was fired up and that got everybody more fired up.  He did a great job there on the hit and the fight and the goal.

Domi's efforts also didn't go unnoticed as evidenced by the comments by the hosts of Leafs Morning Take.
Domi, who was signed to a multi-year extension, hasn't been producing at the rate he did last year.
Through 57 games, Domi has 26 points (5G, 21A) after scoring 47 points in his first year with the Leafs.
It's a great sign to see Domi have such a spark in his step, and hopefully it leads to more success not only in the regular season, but playoff time as well.
